SPIRITUAL DRYNESS

SPIRITUAL DRYNESS
Rev. 3:14-19:
“Re:3:14: And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;Re:3:15: I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.Re:3:16: So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.Re:3:17: Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:Re:3:18: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.Re:3:19: As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

Christians are sometimes faced with the problem of complacency (self-satisfaction). This occurs especially when we have a gift or physically filled with contentment (eg. able to pray, read the bible, attend Christian meeting, flattered by fellow Christians or financially sound). But like the laodicean church, our perceptions can be false before God- we are neither hot nor cold.

Jesus Christ is preparing to come, are you hot or cold?

What are the characteristics of dryness?
When something is dry, some of its characters are:
·        Brittle, feeble and frail (eg. Dry leaves)
·        Its dead; no life in it
·        It’s a symbol or sign of hopelessness (Ezek. 37:1-3,11)
But in 2 Corin. 13:5, we are encouraged to examine ourselves whether we are in the faith
What are some of the causes of spiritual dryness?
§   When there is separation of the trunk from the roots (Jn 15:1-7)
§   When we rely on hollow philosophies and traditions rather than the word of God.
§   Our inability to study the word of God (2Tim. 2:15)
How can we overcome spiritual dryness?
When you plant, you water and till soil for the crop to grow. Likewise, as a Christian, we will need water and nutrients to grow, as the following:
§   Word of God:  Read 2Tim. 2:15, 3:16; Josh 1:8; Matt 4:4; 1 Pet 2:2.
§   Prayer:  Pray without ceasing. Read matt.26:41,7:7
§   Have the Holy Spirit: Read John 6:63, 14:26; Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 5:18.
§   Environment: The environment in which we live also influences our growth. Essentially we should fellowship with true believers (Ps 1:1-3). We should fellowship with a group that will encourage us to grow in the lord rather than discourage you and kill your gifts (Read 1corin. 10:31, 15:33; 2corin. 6:14)

We have to trust in the Lord always and obey Him and we will be hot always. (Read John 15:7). Amen!
