Re:2:20: Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee,
because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess,
to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things
sacrificed unto idols.
Revelation
Chapters 2 and 3 talks about Jesus letters to the seven churches in Asia at the
time. The letters revealed through disciple John when he was exiled in the
island Patmos, was purposed to evaluate the churches on their weaknesses and
strengths. Another uniqueness of the letter was that it advised the seven
churches on how to come out of their weakness and be a strong church. Because
the church was under serious attack from Rome, the Book of Revelation was coded
and therefore one will need to understand history, scripture and current
affairs to be able to decipher these wonderful messages for the last days.
But
to the church in Thyatira, Jesus Christ warned them about the woman Jezebel,
who seduces believers or servants of Christ. Who is this Jezebel, how can we
identify her and avoid her mark as believers and a church.
Jezebel
Jezebel was the daughter of Eth-Baal,
king of the Zidonians- a careless and shameful people (Judges 18:7) but Ahab, a
king of Israel, God’s chosen, married this woman Jezebel. Bible says this
marriage caused Ahab to serve and worship Baal- an ancient god of the heathen.
Ahab built an altar to Baal in his house, made a grove and did more to provoke
the Lord than all the kings of Israel (1kings 16:30-33).
Jezebel wrecked havoc for the prophets
of God at her time that even prophets like Elijah had to flee for their lives.
This is the woman Jesus Christ wants believers to be weary of and not
entertain. But we are entertaining her in the church and in our lives to the
extent that the Lord has a case against her.
The Jezebel character*
- It seduces the church (believers)
to worship idols (1Kings 16:31)
- It scatters the prophets of God
(godly men of God) and kills those she lays hands on (1Kings 18:4)
- It encourages the creation of
groves, which the Lord hates (1kings 18:19)
- It threatens the children of God
who expose her (1kings 19:1-2)
- It covets even through killing her
targets (1kings 21:15)
- It engages in whoredom
(Prostitution) (2kings 9:22)
- It engages in witchcraft (2kings
9:22)
- It usurps power
- It induces people to commit
fornication and
It
stirs people into wickedness (1kings 21:25) *kjb quotes
Although
it is common to refer to Jezebel as a “she”, it is obvious that as a spirit it
is gender neutral, that is, can be a male or female.
The Test
From
the above, what is your score after marking yourself with the Jezebel character?
Are you harbouring the Jezebel spirit as a Christian/ believer? It is alive in
the church today and using you and I to seduce and destroy the church. No
wonder the naked dressings in the church today is not tackled to the latter. No
wonder mobilizing wealth in the church today is through covetousness and
extortion. No wonder there is evidence of adultery and fornication in the
church today. No wonder those who speak the truth as per the word of God are
being frustrated and the praise of humanism is at its best.
Are you identifying the
Jezebel spirit in you or your church now?
Finally
As
Christians, we are to get rid of this treacherous spirit. Jesus says He knows
our works, our charity, our service, our faith, our patience, our works; and
the last to be more than the first. He
has given us time to repent of our fornication and the other Jezebel characters
but we are still unrepentant. He says He will cast us into a bed, and them that
commit adultery with this Jezebel into great tribulation, except we repent of
their deeds.
As
Jesus said unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not His doctrine, and
which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you
none other burden. But that which ye have already, hold fast till I come. And
he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power
over the nations. Remember, Jezebel’s end was very tragic- in death, she was eaten up by
dogs!
He
that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Amen!
