GROWING UNTO MATURITY
LESSON 2 - HOW TO DEAL WITH SIN
INTRODUCTION
Having
known the relationship that should exist between God and man; you must strive
to maintain this relationship in order to enjoy it. Sin is the one major thing
that can rob you of the joy that you should have in the Lord.
There
is only one way by which you can have your joy restored- and that is being
forgiven your sins through the blood of Jesus Christ. God has promised this
forgiveness but it requires our faith to make it complete (1 Jn. 1:9). This is
the only way by which we can restore our relationship.
A. SIN
(i)
What is sin? 1
Jn. 3:4; James 4:17.
(ii)
What provision
has God made for our sins? 1 Jn. 1:9.
(iii)
What is the basis
of this forgiveness? 1 Jn. 1:9, Lam. 3:22-23
(iv)
Why do we have to
refrain from sin as Christians? Isaiah 59:1,2, Rom. 6:1,2; 1 Jn. 3:9, Heb. 10:26.
B. HOW
TO HANDLE SIN
What should be our attitude
towards sin?
(i) Prov. 8:13 (ii) 1 Jn. 2:15 -17 (iii) 2 Tim. 2:22 (iv)
Eph. 5:11
C. HOW
CAN WE COME OUT OF SIN
(i)
Man’s method
(dangerous) –e.g. Judas Iscariot. Matt. 27:3-5
(ii)
God’s method
(best) – Ps. 51:1-12,Prov. 28:13,Mk. 11:24; Matt. 5:23,24
CONCLUSION: Christians are called to a life of holiness which suggests
getting rid of our sins in the right way, so that we can enjoy fellowship with
God. Sin is a very treacherous enemy and must be dealt with ruthlessly with the
power of the Holy Spirit which is the topic for class 3.
